Davis Love III has quit the Wyndham Championship to get kidney stone treatment
Defending champion Davis Love III was disappointed that he had to withdraw from the Wyndham Championship, Greensboro, N.C. for an ultra-sound operation to breakup kidney stones so that they can be passed from his body naturally.
The Forest Oaks Country Club course venue for the tournament has a new layout and as one of those involved in redesigned course Davis Love III rued the missed opportunity to play.
Davis Love III’s departure leaves Anders Hansen, John Sendan and Carl Pettersson as the only players in the top 50 of the latest World Golf rankings competing in the tournament.
Bubba Watson also cited health issues in withdrawing from the tournament although Shaun Micheel, J.B. Holmes Jerry Kelly and Steve Flesch withdrew.
Six winners of the tournament including Love and K.J. Choi committed to the event in July next year when it will feature a new name, a new spot and will be the last PGA tournament before the Fedex Cup playoffs.
