Ernie El's after managing 3rd at the USPGA aims to down Tiger
Ernie El’s is running onto some hot form which he says gives him the confidence to give Tiger a run for his money.
Tiger Woods is back to some of his best form after recently winning his 13th major but Ernie El’s says he’s up to the challenge:
“I’m not quite where I think I can be but if I get up to this next level, maybe I can at least give him a real go, a run for his money,” said Els.
“Somebody needs to step up - he’s playing some awesome golf.”
“I have to keep going on this trend and start giving him a go soon,” added Els.“At the Open (last month) I had a really good chance that I just didn’t take. But to come from six back against the world number one was always going to be tough.
“The way I played here on the final day and at the Open on the final day, that’s the way I want to play in major championships.
“I’m looking forward to it now. I want to play this type of golf day-in and day-out in majors.”
Someone of Ernie El’s pedigree and experience can mount a serious challenge to Tiger Woods and he has the intelligence to put that challenge forward humbly unlike Rory Sabbatini’s smack talk that saw him get a whooping from Woods after some ambitious comments.
It is a joy to watch the majesty of Woods but it gets boring watching Tiger win game after game so here’s hoping that Ernie El’s can put a genuine challenge down and show us how to beat Tiger.
