Tiger Woods swing coach Hank Haney takes over at Hilton Head golf academy
Hank Haney, swing coach for Tiger Woods for the past 3 ½ years, was looking forward to teaching kids as the new director of instruction at the world-famous international Junior Golf Academy at big Hilton Head Island in South Carolina.
First he had to field every single person’s questions about his most famous pupil Tiger Woods. No doubt everyone involved at the academy will be hoping he can pass on some of what he has taught to Tiger Woods.
52 year old Hank Haney is a busy man who will be trying to:
- continue refining Tiger Woods swing,
- teach 160 or so juniors at the academy,
- run a Dallas golf instruction business, and
- head up the ESPN golf schools.
“If I’m going to do this, I want to be involved a meaningful amount of time with the kids,” Hank Haney said. “I’m not interested in just putting my name on something.”
Hank Haney plans monthly reviews of each student’s form. Podcasts and web-based instruction will be complemented with personal instruction when he is at the academy.
His time with the students will increase as the revamped PGA TOUR schedule and FedExCup competition wind down at about the start of the academy’s school year in September. Haney’s time with the ESPN schools will end after this year.
Woods “doesn’t care about what he’s done. He doesn’t care about where he’s been. He doesn’t care about how good he is. He only cares about, ‘What do I need to do today to be better than I was yesterday,”‘ Haney said.
That is the philosophy he will be trying to impart to every kid at the academy.
