Lorena Ochoa An Exceptional Golfer
Rising star Lorena Ochoa of Mexico was placed atop the LPGA world rankings in April 2007.
Ochoa took over the top spot with a points average of 12.84 from 50 events.
Annika Sorenstam is second with an average of 12.74.
Sorenstam had been No. 1 since the LPGA rankings were first introduced in February 2006.
The rankings are adjusted on a rolling two-year calendar with each player’s points total divided by the number of tournaments played.
Lorena Ochoa at 69.82 has the lowest LPGA average score for 2007 with only Angela Park having played more events this year. Ochea leads the LPGA official money list for 2007 with $1,254,404.00.
Lorena Ochoa’s second win of the season at the Sybase Classic presented by ShopRite, earned her a $210,000 paycheck and pushed her to the fastest $7,034,829 in career earnings in 4 years, 2 months and 7 days since her first round on Tour.
Ochoa’s record set in 2005 of 2 years, 3 months and 3 days to career earnings of $3 million was recently surpassed by Paula Creamer who accomplished the feat in 2 years, 2 months and 19 days.
